The training schools run at The Other Side Academy have a two-fold purpose.

The first purpose is for the training of our students. All that is required of our students is a strong desire to change and a willingness to do whatever is asked of them to bring about that change, including working hard every day. Everyone works together and learns by doing. It’s a physically and mentally demanding environment. By participating in our training schools, the students in our program receive an education, acquire marketable vocational and social skills and earn the self-respect necessary to let go of their past. For most, this is the hardest thing they have ever done.

Work is a core principle of the healing process within our model. Training schools give our students the opportunity to learn how to get up every day, go to work on time, return from breaks and lunch, get back to work and do it all again the next day. For some of our students, this is the first time they have ever done this.

Training schools also give our students the opportunity to learn how to work together as a team and how to work respectfully with each other and with a boss. These are new skills that many have never acquired.

Training schools are also opportunities to learn how to be polite, courteous, and civil to each other and to customers. Our students practice “Acting as if” they are polite and courteous until it becomes part of their nature.   Check out the glowing customer reviews on our Moving Company to see this in action!

Our students run all aspects of these training schools. They learn how to manage and supervise others, they learn how to keep the books and report on operations, and how to provide quality service. This gives them new marketable skills that will help them be successful once they graduate.

The second purpose of our training schools is to generate revenues to make The Other Side Academy self-sufficient, another of our 12 basic beliefs.

The Other Side Academy is free to everyone who is accepted into the program. We do not receive government money and we are mostly self-sufficient, with revenues from our training schools covering most of our program expenses.

If you would like to help support The Other Side Academy, a great way to do so is to use the quality services that our Training Schools provide.
